Villagers are aiming to break a world record as part of celebrations to mark the arrival of the 2014 Tour de France.
An attempt will be made to produce the longest stretch of continuous bunting to line the longest continuous incline when the Grand Depart comes to Cragg Vale next year.
Organisers are looking for partners to help with the project and hope that lots of individuals and groups will get involved.
Spokesperson Elaine Simpson said: “It’s a project that anyone, near or far, can take part in and make their mark on history.”
Anybody interested in taking part in the project is invited to attend a meeting at the Robin Hood Inn, Cragg Vale, on Monday, June 10, at 8pm.
